Minutes of 7 February 2009
meeting
President Wells called the meeting to order at 9:30
am. Chaplain, Virgil Ellis,
offered the invocation and Vice President, Jerry Spencer, led us in reciting
the pledge of allegiance to the American and Texas Flags.
President Wells asked members and guests to stand
and introduce themselves and provide information about their Texas ancestry.
Program
Director, John Williams, introduced Guest Speaker, Leon Ingram, who made a
presentation on The Texas Revolution and the Monroe Doctrine. Mr. Williams presented Mr. Ingram with
a SRT coffee cup and other tokens of appreciation for presenting the program.
A copy of the minutes of the prior meeting was
previously posted on the Chapter web site. Mr. Wells asked for a motion to approve the minutes. There was a motion and it was
seconded. The members approved.
Mr. Wells read the financial report provided by
Treasurer, Don Goodman. The
TreasurerÕs report was also approved by voice vote.
The meeting time of the Chapter was agreed upon for
breakfast to begin at 9:00 am and the meeting at 9:30 am.
Mr. D. A. Sharpe gave a report on his trip to
Washington D. C. for the Presidential Inauguration and Texas SocietyÕs Black
Tie & Boots Ball.
The Frances Cooke Van Zandt Chapter of the DRT will
have their annual luncheon on February 28th at 11:30 am. Tickets are $20.00. Dr. Elizabeth Snapp
will be the guest speaker, speaking on ÒGutsy Texas Women 1800-1845.Ó The DRT Alamo Program and the death of Novelleve, ÒNovie,Ó Horton-Porter, past president of the
Fort Worth Chapter, were noted.
SRT Annual meeting at Boerne, Texas, will be at the
Tapatio Springs on March 20-22, 2009.
Mr. Vaughn Oliver presented the Chapter with a report
on the ancestry DVDÕs which should be complete for the April 4, 2009, next
meeting.
Ben Milam and John Williams were presented a plaque
honoring their service a past presidents of the Chapter.
Barton Brent Truitt, a middle school Texas history
teacher for the Plano ISD is the ChapterÕs nominee for educator of the year.
Membership Chairman, Russell Leavens, reminded us
that our Chapter has 20 members who have not paid dues for 2009.
Historian, Gerry Gieger, encouraged members to
write their ancestral history so they can be added to our Chapter web site.
Treasurer Don Goodman told the membership that this
will be the last chance to purchase SRT coffee
cups. The remaining supply will be
used as gifts for speakers.
President Wells asked Vigil Ellis to offer the
benediction after which the meeting was adjourned at 11:30 am
