Minutes of 6 December 2008 meeting

 

 

 

 

President Blair called the meeting to order at 9:30 am and asked Russell Leavens to offer the invocation, which was followed by a group recitation of the pledge of allegiance to the American and Texas Flags led by Vice President David Wells.

 

Mr. Blair asked members and guests to stand and introduce themselves and provide information about their Texas ancestry or any other as they wish.

 

After the Òancestors roll call,Ó Virgil Ellis introduced Randolph ÒMikeÓ Campbell, Education Director of the Texas State Historical Society at the University of North Texas in Denton, who made a presentation, telling of the functions of that organization including the editing and publication of the Handbook of Texas. Mr. Ellis presented Mr. Campbell with an SRT coffee cup and other tokens of appreciation for presenting the program.

 

Copies of the minutes of the prior meeting were available for review and hearing no comments of additions or corrections to the minutes, Mr. Blair asked for a motion to approve the minutes. There was a motion and second to approve and the minutes were approved as written.  Jerry Spencer read a financial report provided by Don Goodman and the TreasurerÕs report was also approved by voice vote after the duly made motion and second.

 

Virgil Ellis announced that he was trying to promote the construction of a replica of Old Fort Worth and BirdÕs Fort and that he had contacted several people in that regard. Virgil asked for the support of Chapter 36 members as a sponsor for those projects. A motion was made to support the projects with no commitment of financial obligation, a second to that motion was made and the motion passed by voice vote.

 

President Blair announced that Vaughn Oliver, John Williams, Ben Milam and Albert DeLeon, serving as a nominating committee, had a list of men to serve as officers of Chapter 36 for the year 2009.  Mr. Blair presented that list of names and asked if there were nominations from the floor. Hearing none, he asked for a motion to approve the named candidates, which resulted in a motion and second and approval of the motion by voice vote.  Mr. Blair asked Albert DeLeon to come forward and install the newly elected officers with a swearing in ceremony. The officers elected for year 2009 are; David Wells, President; Jerry Spencer, Vice President; Glen Howard, Secretary; John Williams, Program Chairman; Don Goodman, Treasurer; Russell Leavens, Membership Chairman; Virgil Ellis, Chaplain; Gerald Gieger, Historian; D.A. Sharpe, Webmaster. Also, the current President, Duane Blair, was installed as the Executive Committeeman for Chapter 36.  Ben Milam is the Sergeant of Arms.

President Blair asked Russell Leavens to offer the benediction after which the meeting was adjourned at 11:30 am.
