EPHRAIM DAGGETT CHAPTER 36
Sons of the Republic of Texas
Minutes of 2 August 2008 meeting
President Blair called the
meeting to order at 10 am and asked Russell Leavens to give the invocation,
which was followed by the pledge of allegiance to the American and Texas Flags.
President Blair then
presented Mr. Sidney Stanley (Stan) Scott with a certificate as an honorary
member of Chapter 36 since Stan has been a faithful attendee of our meetings
and participated in them for an extended time.
The minutes of the previous
meeting and the treasurerÕs report were read by Jerry Spencer and they were approved
unanimously by voice vote. A motion was made to publish the minutes on our web
site and any additions or corrections, if any are made, would be noted prior to
voting on the minutes at the next meeting. This would negate the need to read
minutes during the meeting.
The motion was seconded and
passed unanimously by a voice vote.
President Blair introduced
some of the new members and asked that the people in attendance stand and
introduce themselves and provide their ancestry, which made them eligible for
membership in SRT, and other family history as they pleased.
Vaughn Oliver presented a pin
to President Blair recognizing him as District Representative of SRT. Vaughn
presented some background information about Mr. Ronald M Vandiver and asked
that an honorary membership in Chapter 36 be awarded to him as a native Texan
with long family ties to Texas history. A motion was made and seconded to award
membership to Mr. Vandiver and the motion passed unanimously. Mr. VandiverÕs
middle initial does not include a period.
Mr. Oliver continued by
announcing that the DVDÕs, containing the information in the applications for
membership on record for all members, would be available to purchase for
$250.00 in September. There was some discussion about securing SRT bumper
stickers for members and this is to be investigated for future consideration.
Virgil Ellis introduced John
Williams who presented a power point program detailing historical facts which
occurred at the time the Republic of Texas existed followed by a list of
locations, with photographs, where Texas legations or embassies had been
established around the world and in the United States of America. JohnÕs
brother is employed as a political analyst in the American Embassy in Paris
France and he assisted John with his research of the Texas legation history.
Virgil Ellis presented John
Williams with a token of appreciation for his presentation and announced that
the program for the October meeting would be presented by Glenn Howard on the
Final Battle at Palo Duro Canyon. Glenn Howard passed out a reference sheet
listing items of research to be viewed in preparation for his program.
Russell Leavens offered the
benediction and the meeting was dismissed at 11:50 am by president Blair.
